You Cannot Negotiate
With Your Flesh

We’ve all been there!

It’s the second day of your diet, you’re in the grocery store and see your favorite pie is marked down 75% and can’t resist! Once home after promising yourself to eat just 'one small piece' by bedtime half of it is gone.

Or you’re on-line and see a pretty woman that invites you to be a friend on Instagram and all of a sudden you’ve fallen down a rabbit hole of risqué pictures. You didn’t 'Mean To Go There,' but once you got started, you could not stop looking.

As today’s verse reminds us, our best intentions are no match for our desires, and when negotiating with the idea of “Should I-Or-Shouldn’t I” you set yourself up for failure every time because You Cannot Negotiate With Your Flesh.

Jeremiah 17:9 warns us that “The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked: who can know it?” Therefore we cannot – nor should not – EVER trust our desires to rule us, and if that is the case, what is the solution?

The Word of God also promises us:

“No temptation has overtaken you except what is common to mankind. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can endure it.”
1 Corinthians 10:13

And that is the Holy Spirit! When you yield EVERY THOUGHT and EVERY DESIRE and give it to Him there can and will be victory. When you turn your eyes away from that which tempts and make a conscious effort to look to God and say when met with that temptation, “I want to be the person you want me to be in this and all situations” then He can and will help you overcome it.

Is this easy?!? NO!! It is not!

It is a CONSTANT BATTLE between the flesh and the spirit! Our job is to stay on point and be faithful. This is not possible when negotiating with your flesh, but it IS POSSIBLE when standing with God’s Spirit, but you must always be on guard.

Friend, make the decision to do yield to the spirit and then you will not fulfill the desires of the flesh.
