Don’t Be Fooled By
Following What’s “In”

There was ONE time in my life where I 'followed the crowd' because at the time I thought that it was pretty cool, but I have to admit now in looking back, it was all pretty silly.

I had (and wore!) platform shoes, a shiny long collared polyester shirt, and blue gradient faded bell bottom pants! All these were the IN thing and EVERYONE was doing that — along with hippie beads, peace bracelets, and those silly skinny purple sunglasses. But hey! It was the 60’s and 70’s, and back then the saying was '...the times they are a changin.' If it felt good, DO-IT was the thing — and nobody wanted to be out of step with what was popular.

Well, a lot of that same peer pressure to accept the trends of the times is going around again today too - but with an important difference. Instead of flowing with STYLE, it is following with SANCTIONS as the acceptable way of thinking, living, and being.

Now before you shoot me (as the messenger) all of the popular movements we see today may seem on the surface just, fair and logical, but when stood up next to the Word of God, there are difficulties that cannot be overcome.

A common way of thinking that weaves a web through each of these popular movements is that as times have changed, so must our views on viewing and interpreting scripture, and that instead we need to now view the Bible from a modern point of view for a different day. But is that true?

Well the Bible says instead that Jesus Christ is “…the same yesterday, and TODAY, and forever.” (Hebrews 13:8) This means God’s laws, principles, and righteousness DOES NOT CHANGE with the times, and when you honestly examine these current popular 'philosophies of men' about the issues of the day as they are presented, NONE OF THEM stand up to the scrutiny of God’s Word.

Perhaps you strongly disagree with all this, and that is OK. The question you have to ask yourself is what is YOUR BASIS for understanding, embracing or even celebrating the trends that are so popular today? Or is it based on '...the times they are a changin' and we all need to, like the planet, is to “evolve” to a higher level of consciousness, sensitivity and understanding?

The Bible says that “There are ways of thinking that seems right to a people” (Proverbs 16:25) and my friend as always we all have free will and are free to determine those 'ways' to think and believe anything we choose. The question however is “What are you basing that thinking on?” And if so, how do you know you are right?

These times, for certain, '...they are a changin', but as today’s scripture warns us:

Beware lest any man spoil you through philosophy and vain deceit, after the tradition of men, after the rudiments of the world, and not after Christ.
