Don’t Make A
“TITANIC” Mistake

I have always been curious about the captivation that people continue to have over the sinking of the TITANIC. Although this disaster happened over 100 years ago there have since been an endless stream of books, articles, documentaries, and movies made on this famous ship and the ensuing tragedy. My question was always WHY were and are people so fascinated by this ship - and the answer just occurred to me recently.

The Titanic was in one sense a modern day version of the Tower of Babel – an achievement of such stupendous accomplishment that promised safety and superiority from aquatic danger while exalting the creativity and brilliance of man and his invincibility. Those that created and sailed on Titanic were PROUD of it’s apparent invincibility. Likewise the ancient tower was an assurance that no matter what happened, no water would ever overcome it, and with the Titanic, no water could ever sink it.

People in the same way live the voyage of their lives like passengers on the Titanic. On the 'ship of life' they feel assured that all will go and be well and that there is no danger encountered that cannot be overcome. After all, they are on an 'unsinkable ship' and their fate is not in danger. However then as now, this is a false assumption.

Eventually everyone’s 'ship' hits an iceberg of death and there is nothing we can do on our own from sinking DOWN and to save our ship. It is going to sink to a grave way down under, and our only hope is to be Rescued, and the only other 'ship' that can SAVE us is JESUS. If you have never understood the concept or the phrase Jesus Saves I hope you see it now, because this is exactly what this means. Jesus can save you from a certain death, but you have to make two decisions and take one action.

First, decide and admit that you cannot save yourself. Second, that Jesus is the only way to be saved, and lastly take the literal step to get into the lifeboat of His salvation and by confessing Christ as your Lord and Messiah. Then and only then can you safely sail into eternity.

If you have read this far, do you see what has been said here? If so, make the decision right now to recognize that the ship you are on will not save you! Don’t make a TITANIC mistake! Instead know that the ship you are on will sink, believe that Jesus is offering you a seat on the (eternal) LIFE boat, and get on that boat! Ask God to forgive you of your sins and ask Him to save you, and He will save you.
