The Holy Spirit Is The Breath & Power Of God
“I tell you the truth: it is to your advantage that I go away, for if I do not go away, the HELPER will not come to you. But if I go, I will send HIM to you”
John 16:7
Who is this 'Helper' that Jesus spoke about?
He is the third part Trinity and like Jesus,
He is divinely and uniquely a person and not only
a power or influence. When Jesus departed, the Holy Spirit
came to be with His church to Comfort, Protect, Counsel, and Guide us.
Here are His attributes. The Holy Spirit:
- Is not a 'ghost' or a 'force' or thing, but a PERSON.
Instead He is personal and may be grieved
(Ephesians 4:30) and quenched by not being able to exercise His will
(Thessalonians 5:19). He may also be resisted
(Acts 7:51).
- Is both the Father and with the Son being both co-equal and co-eternal.
In John 14:16-7 Jesus said that the
Father and the Son would send the Spirit and the Spirit came and acted
for both of them. He is not isolated from the person of Christ or from
the eternal will of the Father, but like the Father and Son has
His role in the Godhead.
- Is the agent of creation.
It was the power of the breath of the Spirit’s energy shown in
Genesis 1:1-2 that created the worlds and placed everything in the
universe into existence. It is the place of the Holy Spirit that
acts in the miraculous power to accomplish God’s purpose.
- Is the One who gives us our “new birth”
when we accept Christ as Savior.
In John 3 in the classic between Jesus and Nicodemus Jesus said,
“Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born of water and the Spirit,
he cannot enter the kingdom of God” (v5).
We see how the Holy Spirit works this out many times in the rest of the

- Is the author of the Scriptures.
2nd Timothy 3:16 tells us, “All Scripture is breathed out by God,”
and the Greek word behind this phrase is theopneustos, which means
“God-breathed” which tells us the Spirit breaths His energy,
releasing the power of God in also in the act of creation.
The Apostle Peter also affirms this view in 2 Peter 2:1:21 writing,
“No prophecy was ever produced by the will of man, but men spoke
from God as they were carried along by the Holy Spirit” so it was
the divine inspiration given by the Holy Spirit according to their
historical settings and their personalities that penned their writings.
When the disciples were with Jesus here on earth they didn’t need the
Holy Spirit, because Jesus was giving them what they needed,
so when He departed, the Holy Spirit was sent to come alongside
(i.e. parakletos = called to be alongside) as the one who comes
to be our Helper to “be with you forever… he dwells with you and be with you.”
This same Helper is still here today with those who receive Jesus Christ as
Lord and Savior.
If you are in Christ, the Parakletos - HE - is standing beside you!
every moment.
