Yes, No, or “Present”

When asked a direct question that is uncomfortable, many people will get out of a direct answer with a lot of words and round about speech. This is most evident with politicians when asked a difficult question and especially when required to comment on something that could put them in a bad light. When their name is called for a vote, instead of a definitive YES or NO, they have the cop-out answer of simply replying “Present”.

In today’s scripture, Jesus puts it much more decisively. Life sometimes steps up to us with difficult choices, and in our integrity we often need to make hard decisions of YES or NO, but sometimes we can pass things off to another time. However unlike a politician in the halls of government, when it comes to our eternal destiny, we don’t have the luxury of saying “present”. At some point you have to make a choice about God and his offer of salvation.

Perhaps the most uncomfortable question of all for most people is “Do you believe Christ resurrected from the dead?” and “I need to be saved from sin and cleansed by Christ’s blood?” Are these TRUE OR FALSE statements? These are certainly VERY DIRECT and challenging questions and your answer can only be a YES or NO - present won’t cut it.

Friend I ask you today....what is your answer?

Sure – it is ok to dismiss these questions as not relevant, valid, or applicable to your life, but if so, you just voted NO. All of us have free will to do and decide, say, and think as we please. God is a gentleman. He will not force himself on anyone, yet it is up to you to make a decision. Tomorrow may not give you an opportunity to answer before it is to late. Take a minute right now and ask yourself; YES or NO.
