During a Sunday School class a few years ago someone quoted a section from the Book of Revelation to tie into a point made by the teacher. The instructor asked the class what they thought of that and one person exclaimed nervously, “Oh! I never read Revelation… it’s too scary!” Perhaps you or someone you know feels the same way!

Admittedly there are a lot of hard to comprehend sections of this often avoided book, but today’s scripture says that this is the only book in the Bible where we are rewarded with blessings if we read it! It has often been said that The Old Testament is the New Testament concealed and the New Testament is the Old Testament revealed. This especially applies to Revelation as it is essential to put into context the underlying writings of the Old Testament Prophets, Psalms, and other passages in order to understand the complete picture described in this often misunderstood book.

In one sense Revelation is like the proverbial “tip of the iceberg” in that the little piece jutting above the water is there because a much larger foundation that makes this possible is floating below. Likewise to understand the underlying story that is the foundation of Revelation requires an understanding of the scriptures on which it is based.

We are indeed at the End of The Age that Jesus spoke of in Matthew 24 and on the precipice of tribulation “for the time is at hand” to both believers and non-believers. Even if you do not understand everything about Biblical Prophecy and the monumental events described in this last book of the Bible, be assured that the blessing coming for those that understand is the confidence that we have eternal life with God, and that despite the trials to come --“We Win!”
