Obedience is the
Key to Hearing
God’s Voice

“Blessed rather are those who
hear the word of God
and obey it.“

Luke 11:28

In today’s world, there is so much "noise" that it is hard to really "listen." The fast pace and demands of life can easily drown out the important messages that we could hear from heaven if we could just listen, but hearing requires specialized listening. The question is, "How do you do that?"

God almost always speaks in a very soft, quiet, gentle voice and we are not able to hear his voice unless we slow down, quiet down, and "get down!" Being "down" is the key and the answer to this is hidden in the original language of today’s verse.

The words "hear" and "obey" amazingly are both related. In Greek, the core part for the word "obey" is the same root of our word "listen" but the power of this is that it is combined with the word "hypo" (like hypodermic needle) which means "under or low." So to "obey" is to "listen low." In other words, we have to slow down, stop the noise around us, and be quiet and still enough to hear what God is saying to us.

Psalm 46:10 puts it this way; “Be still, and know that I am God.” When we are really still and quiet, then and only then can we can hear God’s voice.

His voice is always there. Take the time to be still each day and "listen low."
