Having A
Faithful Mind

“Let the words of my mouth, and the
Meditation of my heart
Be acceptable in thy sight”

Psalm 19:14

how-we-think If you are a Christian, you most likely practice using appropriate language. That is, that the words of your mouth are acceptable to God and uplifting to yourself and others. However, as Psalm 19:14 also reminds us, having thoughts that are also good, wholesome and holy are also to be a part of our Christian walk — but this is a Far Bigger Challenge.

Behavioral scientists estimate that we have about 6,000 thoughts per day, and if you are honest with yourself, not all those thoughts are pure or good. I can attest to that, and maybe you can too.

1 John 2:16 sadly reminds us of this daily trial saying - “For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life” are ever present temptations that are continually bombarding our life, and therefore our thoughts. So the question is how can we develop a faithful mind and thoughts that are pleasing to God?

The Apostle Paul gives us the answer in Colossians 3:2-3 “Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth. For ye are dead, and your life is hid with Christ in God.” as well as Isaiah 26:3 “ Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee.”

Friend the way to being an overcomer in our thought life is to always keep our eyes (and thoughts) on God, and not on the world, the flesh or the temptations of the devil. Is this easy? Absolutely Not! But like a pro athlete that is continuingly training and striving to be better and stronger, we too must diligently work at this by “Not being conformed to this world, but transformed by the Renewal Of Your Mind.” (Romans 12:2)
