Can Be Like
A Broken Egg

The most emotionally painful part of divorce is the effect it has on children. Many years ago, while my children were all very young my little daughter asked me a heartbreaking question.

“Daddy, why can’t you and mommy get back together?”

I was emotionally paralyzed for a moment not knowing what to say, but God gave me an answer far beyond my own wisdom.

I asked her, “Maria, have you ever seen a broken egg?” She nodded her head, looking curiously for an answer.

“Well, sometimes mommies and daddies are like a broken egg, and you Just Can’t Put A Broken Egg Back Together.

Relationships can become like today’s verse. They can start off well - like Saul was with the young future-king David with respect and admiration - and degrade to a point where one person is full of bitterness and trying to ruin the other.

So yes, like a broken egg, what once was may NOT be repairable. However, regardless as today’s verse exhorts, it is vital to put wrathful feelings behind. Just as God has forgiven our debts of sin towards him, as the Lord’s prayer says: “...as we forgive our debtors.” (Matthew 6:12)

Friend, reconciliation may not be possible, but forgiveness is something we all must do to be truly free and NOT hold All Malice.
